Today, the 15th of July 2020, marks the World Youth Skills Day and as we celebrate let us not forget the aim of WYSD which is to recognize the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship, and to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing current and future global challenges.
The Nigerian Youth Parliament, through it's Committee for Employment, has been working tirelessly round the clock in attempts to tackle youth restiveness through gainful engagements and drastically reduce the rate of unemployment amongst the youths.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic has left a lot of youths unemployed and now more than ever we get to appreciate the little skills that we could have easily acquired to help us survive this trying time.
We wish to commend Gombe State Governor for his efforts towards promoting Youth with skills through exhibition challenge and also the construction of Dangote Youth Center in Kano state which is the largest in West Africa and any other individuals/government that have activated skill acquisition centers in various States and LGAs to mark this year’s World Youth Skills Day.
We urge youths to take the pains and learn a skill today, either to advance your careers or Kickstart a business. The importance of developing skilled youth is at the core of this year’s message for World Youth Skills Day. There are several virtual courses focused on skills development most of which are free. Do take advantage of these platforms.
