The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in collaboration with Kano State Government hosted the first sitting of the 4th session of Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) held at the State Assembly Complex.
The sitting was held from 28th to 31st December, 2019 at the Audu Secretariat, Kano state.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the sitting, Acting Governor Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna called on the youth parliamentarians to come up with deliberations and motions that will be beneficial to the youths in the country.
He stressed that doing such "will compliment government efforts in fighting the menace of youths restiveness and other social vices”.
The Governor disclosed that the state is planning to open entrepreneurship centers for the youth to learn different skills.
“In our efforts to boost entrepreneurship in the state, we will soon commission centre for skills acquisition for the benefit of our youth and women," Acting Governor Nasiru said.
Kano State government under the administration of Governor Abdullah Ganduje promised to empower many youths and women with grants and assist them as well as improving their socio-economic development in their community.
Earlier speaking, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare commended the State Government for hosting the program saying it is a challenge to other states to show support for the youth.
Represented by the permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Gabriel Tanimu Adadu, Mr. Dare said there are programs designed for the youths which will be implemented in 2020.
"There are many youth oriented projects which have been designed for and will be implemented in 2020," The Minister said.
Meanwhile on his part, the Minister appreciated Governor Ganduje for appointing youth in various positions in the state, stressing that the appointment of young person as commissioner has "proven that his excellency is a youth friendly governor”.
The National Speaker of the Children Parliament Abba Abdukadir Maisara called on NYP members to deliberate on the fight against internet children abuse.
In a related Development the Nigerian Youth Parliament, NYP also commended Kano State for initiating programs geared towards youths development in the state.
The Speaker Rt.Hon Mubarak Mijinyawa gave the commendation in his remark at Africa House in Kano State Government House during a dinner organised by the state Acting Governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna on Tuesday 31st December, 2019.
He said ''the administration of Ganduje has initiated many youths programs that will go a long way in combating the menace of youth restiveness, thuggery, drugs abuse and other social vices''.
Mijinyawa added that other sectors were not left behind, roads projects, health, education and human development the administration has also done hence deserve accolades.
He solicited for support and collaboration from the state government and called on other parliamentarians to be at fore front in publicizing the developmental programs of Kano State.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Kabiru Ado Lakwaya expressed joy over the level of maturity exhibited by the young parliamentarians during their stay in the state.
While responding the Acting Governor, Dr . Nasiru thanked the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development for honouring the state to host the first sitting of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, while expressing optimism that the motions and deliberations of NYP will be beneficial to the youths.
Dr. Nasiru maintained that the motions of the parliament will be looked into and "how to incorporate them and make sure they are translated into full laws."
The parliamentarians were entertained by different groups of Hausa traditional performers and musical interludes.
The state government also presented gifts to parliamentarians, official of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Director Bills of the National Assembly among others.
